Commodore's Comments for AUGUST

Where has the summer gone? Thinking of sailing, I hope that you have followed the results of the local regattas.  In each of the events, sailors from the JIYC have brought back silver.  Many of the sailors had their first lessons at one of our club sponsored sailing classes that we have had for many years.  This year’s classes were a great success and maybe we will see some of these kids in the future.  The summer series continues to be great fun, so if you are not doing anything on a Thursday night, come out and sail or watch the activities from the dock.  A special thank you to Dave Stanger and his crew on the Cygnet.  They have represented the club in Grand fashion.
The monthly meeting will have a vote on a proposed By Laws change.  Please see the sections below for more details on the proposed changes and the election of officers for 2003-2004.  Our Installation banquet is set for September 13th, so check the lounge or web for more details for this event.
Finally, the month of August will bring the Ladies Luau Party.  Also, the lounge is planning a Casino Nite on the evening of August 23rd.  Check the lounge or web page for more information.

Hope to see you at the Club,     Tom McMillan - Commodore

The James Island Yacht Club sailors had much success at the Hobcaw Regatta. Several of the sailors finished in first place.
Guess who crewed on the Cygnet for the Charleston Regatta???? Lesley Cabell, but her son Will had to replace her for Sundays race.
The ladies Outer Banks shirts have arrived. We have red, white, pink and yellow in sizes S-2XL. Come to the club on Wednesday nights to see which club member has volunteered their time to bartend. Maureen McDaniel, Phyllis Ayling, Melinda Accardo, Wendy Tripp and myself bartended last month and had a blast. A special thanks to Tom Cavanaugh for the wine tasting at the July meeting.
Look forward to see you August 9th at the luau. Fran Hanford is organizing the event and it should be a awesome time for all.

Thanks,
Cathy Estep : President
