Commodore's Comments
Hello Everyone,
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I know we all are enjoying
the great Fall weather. This has to be the best time of year to be in this
part of the world.
Recently, I came to the Club at about 8:30 on a Saturday morning in
order to get some exercise rowing over to the City and back. The harbor was
flat calm and the area was under one of the typical Fall high-pressure systems
that produces clear, cool and windless days. I noticed that the Club parking
lot was almost empty. While it was great having the place to myself, I wish
there were more members present to enjoy these special days. I encourage
everyone to come down and take advantage of the great Fall boating season.
Our social activities continue at an all time high with the Ladies
Auxiliary, our House Committee and others contributing to great events. Wednesday
night is taking on a life of its own as anyone knows who attended “Turkey
Shooter Nite”. The December calendar is also full of holiday events as you
can see elsewhere in this issue.
As to administrative matters, our Committees are moving ahead on several
initiatives. The best way to get “up to speed” on these matters is to attend
our general membership meetings. One of the areas or particular interest
is the activity aimed at improving communication by increasing E-Mail between
the Club and its members. George Cook, our Corresponding Secretary and Evan
Jenkins, our Vice Commodore and computer guru - are busy getting everyone’s
E-Mail addresses so each member can receive timely briefings on up and coming
events. Each member will be receiving information in the mail in this regard.
I hope to see you all soon at the Club….and if anyone is interested
in learning about rowing a sliding seat boat, please give me a call. The
JIYC is a perfect place for this activity.

Ladies Auxiliary Comments:
We are still on a "roll" with enthusiastic
ideas and success stories. "Pink Drink" night was successful enough for us
to donate $375.00 to Breast Cancer Awareness. "Turkey Shoot-ER" night brought
a feast of food to the "Gobble Station" and 12 winners of turkeys for the
Turkey Shoot. There was some interesting shooting under the pavilion. Thanks
to Tom Cavanaugh again for donating the vintage "Wild Turkey" flask as a
raffle prize. We were able to pay for the turkey's and have more money to
spare. Pilgrims, a Turkey and an Indian (?) were the bartenders with
Wild turkey recipes.
We have voted to buy rocking chairs and a few small tables for the
porch and to replace the stools in the kitchen for the cooking committee.
There is lots of merchandise in the closets for Christmas presents for loved
ones.
We will have our "Tree trimming" gathering on December 3 at 6:30PM.
Please join us.
New Year's Eve at the club will be "Glitzy-Glamorous and some Gambling"
Cocktails in our "Lounge" at 8:00PM with dinner at 9:00PM with music,
dancing and gambling to follow. Please plan on joining us. I don't think
you will be disappointed and there is a rumor we may even have transportation
home for those who really like having a good time.
After the New Year we will have a "Chili Cook-off Contest on January
16. You will need to register to compete by January 10.
We are looking for a crystal vase that belong to Meta Frasch that
was taken from the club during the Women's North American Sunfish regatta
in the fall. Any information would be most appreciated. The vase was very
special to the family.
If you all keep coming and enjoying our fun we will keep providing
it for you and we love hearing all your ideas. Did someone mention "Leather
and Lace"? Sounds good.
