Commodore's Comments for February

Well, winter has definitely arrived in Charleston.  I’m sure that all of us are ready for the warmer temperatures of Spring to return to the lowcountry.  But good news, it is now the season for our annual Oyster Roast.  On February 8th, the cooking committee will make its famous fish stew and offer hot dogs and chili for those who don’t enjoy those wonderful oysters.  Also, this is the time of the year to remove your boats from the club’s grounds, which will allow us to work on a cleaning up our property.  Please read the section below for more information about boat parking.  Plus, don’t forget to take a look at the club’s web page.  Ron and Evans have been busy updating the site.

Some questions concerning the financial condition of the club were brought up at our last general meeting.  In order to answer your questions, the board and finance committee have set up two dates prior to our February General meeting, so members can meet with officers and finance committee members to discuss the issues regarding the policy and recommendations that the Board as taken to help the financial “wellness” of the club.  Officers and committee members will join with members and break up into small groups with the objective of providing members with a thorough understanding of our club finances.  This is a great opportunity for anyone to “get up to speed” on the financial structure of the James Island Yacht Club.  In addition, you might enjoy a visit to the Bar.

For a chance to further discuss these issues in more detail please join us on either:

FEBRUARY 4TH or 6TH, for a MEMBERSHIP / BOARD / FINANCE Meeting
Starting at 7:30 p.m.  ( please Check the Lounge or Call for more Details )

Hope to see you at the Club,     Tom McMillan - Commodore

Ladies Auxiliary

Well, the cold weather has definitely arrived!  And if you are looking for some new, warm clothes; check out the club’s web page.  Some of the ladies ways & means merchandise is now listed on the Internet.  Also, don’t forget to order your new yacht club tumblers (info. inside this cygnet).
A special thank you to everyone who helped “take down” all of the club’s Christmas holiday decorations.  The club really looked great during December.
We hope to see you at our annual oyster roast, and as always, the ladies will have some of our great merchandise available to those who are in the mood to do some “shopping”.
It’s early, but don’t forget to mark down April 12th, on your calendar for our Health Fair ( more information coming soon ).
