Commodore's Comments
  Hello again everyone,

The Fall season has started with a bang! Steak night, Karaoke party, Family Fishing Tournament, Pink Night, and the Octoberfest meal - all in the last couple of weeks.  All the events have been well attended for a good reason - they were a lot of fun. The Ladies Auxiliary has been working overtime during Breast Cancer Awareness Month to provide the best possible forums for us to learn about this illness.

Saturday, I visited the Club while Larry Hanford and his team were weighing in the catch from the Family Fishing Tournament. Last Wednesday evening, before Pink Night, I walked into the kitchen and visited with Boise and his Octoberfest Crew. They were working hard to prepare the home-made Bratwurst that was the center piece for the meal on Friday. Later, and after seeing all the work the Ladies Auxiliary put into the lively Pink Night party, I reflected on the wonderful spirit of volunteerism that exists in our Club. That spirit is very special and is the primary reason our Club is such an enjoyable place.

I understand the shrimping season is doing very well for those of us with the energy to throw nets on top of mudballs. I have heard there has been some crowding on our dock in the evenings - please share space with as many people as possible when using the dock for shrimping. Please do not “claim” a wide area for yourself - allow everyone a chance to have some fun.

There is an exciting SCOW regatta coming up on the 25th and 26th. Come down and watch our sailors. There simply is not a better place on Charleston Harbor to enjoy this wonderful Fall weather then our own Club grounds - especially when the sailboat fleet is racing.

On the “business side” of the Club, the committees are beginning to move on new initiatives for the year. There is a lot of planning going on at the moment. I continue to encourage all of you who would like to participate on any committees to contact me or the Committee Chairmen and join in …I think you will find the experience enjoyable and rewarding.

See you at the Club,

   Ladies Auxiliary Comments:

We started our 2003-2004 year off with a very successful Steak Night.  Thanks to Gary Cromer and his Karaoke talents "The Lounge" rocked and when "Evans and Company" made the scene the place went wild.
Pink Drink Night in " The Lounge" followed that same week with a fantastic turnout of people who gave new meaning to the color pink in clothing, food and drinks. We are grateful for the raffle prize donations given by Charlotte Capo, the Livermores, and especially Tom Cavanaugh for the basket and the emergency run for Triple Sec. Without the Triple Sec we may never have had those "Pink Cosmos" moments at the bar. Because of everyone's generosity we will be able to give a substantial donation to the local "Breast Cancer Awareness " program.  Both Steak Night and Pink Night will be "keeper" for next year.
The "creative juices" of the auxiliary are really flowing. Look out for more "Lounge" nights that will include a "Wine Tasting", a Turkey Shoot--er" night, a chili cook-off, and a "Leather and Lace" night.
Kay Reynolds and Verna Powell have agreed to co-chair the House committee and will be looking for you support.
Join us as we decorate for the holidays in the lounge on Dec.3 and then for Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 13. I also hear that a " new and different" New Years' Eve party is coming.
Thanks to all of you who continue to support this " effervescent" group as both a volunteer and participant. We love seeing you.
