Commodore's Comments
Greetings everyone,
I want to start off this new year as Commodore by thanking all
of you for the vote of confidence. The well wishes I have received from many
members are appreciated. In addition, Nancy and I had a wonderful time at
the inauguration - the food was great and so was the company.
This year we have a well experienced Board to guide the
Yacht Club through the year. In addition, we are in the process of assembling
a top notch staff of committee heads. Remember that a great deal of the operation
of the Club, especially new activities and planning duties, are performed
by committees. If you want to get involved in Club administration, please
contact one of the committee heads listed in this publication - there is
always room for one more. We have all Committee heads staffed except
Entertainment. If you have an interest in managing the four major social
events at JIYC (next one is the New Year’s Party), please contact me. I should
add that there are always plenty of volunteers helping at each social event.
Shrimp season has started. I have seen quite a few members shrimping
from the dock this year. In years past the dock used to be packed with members
fishing with drop nets. It was a great social activity despite the fact that
the haul was generally smaller than that resulting from today’s method of
casting over bait. Maybe “drop net” activity is coming back? In any case,
I wish all shrimpers good luck.. All members should be aware that shrimping
season sometimes brings security issues to the Club. If you see someone on
the premises who is not a member, please ask that person to leave the Club
- don’t be shy, this is our Club and it is Private.
It is an honor to be here as Commodore - it is going to be a
great year! My thanks to Tom McMillian for leaving the Club in such good
shape. Let’s get started!
Bruce Stoehr - Commodore

Ladies Auxiliary Comments:
We all had a wonderful fun-filled
year with Cathy Estep, JR at the helm and I hope to follow in her footsteps
with more "bodacious" times.
As I mentioned at the installation banquet I am excited about
coming back to a ladies auxiliary that has such talented and willing to serve
women.
I am open to suggestions from the membership so please do not
hesitate to share your ideas and come to the general meetings.
There will be a guest speaker at the October meeting who will
talk to us about breast cancer awareness. All during the month of October
we will be accepting donations to the breast cancer awareness program in
the big pink ribbon jar at the bar as well as hosting a "Pink Drink" night
on Oct. 15 with pink munchies drinks and door prizes.
Come and see some great entertainment on Oct. 11 as we host
a Steak, Ale, and Karakoke night. Check the web for more details.
The auxiliary is looking forward to working with and for the
men's club in making this a place where you will want to be for fun.
