Summer Sailing Program

  


  The James Island Yacht Club is once again offering sailing classes for all levels of skill and age groups during the summer of 2003.
  Instructors are US Sail certified and class size is limited, assuring quality instruction with plenty of one on one attention, both beginning and advanced classes are offered during each session.
  All sessions are two weeks in duration.  Boats are provided by the James Island Yacht Club and include Optimist Pram, Sunfish, and 420’s.  The 420 is offered both with and without spinnaker.
  Although the James Island Yacht Club provides all necessary equipment, students are required to bring their own boat/deck shoes and a Type II flotation device (these come in different styles and sizes, and proper fit is important.)  
 The classes will be run in half-day sessions due to tides.  Sessions will start at 8:30am – 12:30pm for one week, and 1pm – 5pm the following week (or vice versa due to the tide’s hours)
  Students can take more than one session, as skills learned will be used to build better and more advance techniques.

International Optimist Pram
The largest youth training class in the world.  Designed especially for children, the “opti” is the perfect first boat for the young sailor.

Sunfish
The largest and most active class in the nation.  A challenging boat for all age levels.

420
With a two-person crew, teamwork is essential.  It is an exceptionally responsive craft that quickly rewards proper trim and attention to detail.
